Truth Is Thursday...

Truth is... Oldest had his best basketball game ever on Tuesday.  It went back and forth, I only had to scream "DEFENSE!!! GET YOUR HANDS UP" twice, and it went into overtime.  In the end they lost, 23 to 26, but my boy played his best game ever scoring 18 of the 23 points for his team.

Truth is... I'm becoming THAT mom.  You know, the one who thinks she can yell from the sidelines and the kids can hear her?  Yeah.  That one.

Truth is.... Tony missed the game.  Which was okay, since this is the only game that will be broadcast on public access television. Oldest is really excited because now Tony can critique him and telling where he needs to "step up his game".

Truth is... I broke down and bought my favorite facial mask the other night.  And despite my warnings, Tony came around the corner and about had a heart attack.  Seems he has no love for mimes or clowns. :0)

Truth is... I got the payment amounts from social security on Tuesday.  I cried.  Never again will I have to worry about the financial means to raise them. Worrying about everything else though, is still on the table.

Truth is... my sun room is now in shambles.  There was a lot more water damage than expected.  All the drywall is out, the walls have been re-insulated (except what still needs to dry out) and the only thing left to go is the ceiling.  We've ripped up half of the floor down to the plywood sub floor, and there is the unmistakable smell of hundred year old wood.  So yeah, the kids can't have friends over for a while.

Truth is... I was asked to turn another wedding dress into a christening gown.  We meet on Sunday to go over the specs for what she wants.  I am really excited.

Truth is... On Monday night I was awoken by the sound of a gasping animal laughter and a snorting pig.  Really.  It sounded like a hyena and a wild boar running by the bedroom window.  Then it really freaked me out when the creature set off the backyard motion sensor lights.  Best guess was a coyote, but for a brief moment it was like I was in the middle of the Lion King, broadway style.

Truth is... I think that's enough for me this week.  You're turn!

17 Survival Tips:

  1. Nothing wrong with being "that mom" Some moms couldn't care less from my experience.
Really glad you have one less worry with the social security payment coming through.

Good luck with the reno Rather you than me

  2. I have chickens out my back window of my bedroom and there is NOTHING more terrifying then waking to a fox getting in there. The death scream of a chicken sounds startlingly human. I've woken thinking I was in the middle of a horror movie...not easy to get back to sleep after that. I would imagine thinking of a coyote turned Hakuna Matata wanna be would be just as unsettling.

  3. Truth is: I'm just thinking...are you or a neighbor missing a cat. :0(

Truth is: Homeowners insurance pays your max coverage for unseen water damage if you have that coverage in your policy. :0)
Truth is: Hope it was and hope you do. :0)

Truth is: I'm happy for you a your sons. :0)

  6. Social security survivor's benefits were a Godsend for me eight years ago. My boys still get them.

And you turn wedding gowns into Christening gowns? Is there anything you can't do?!

Coyotes scare me. I hope they can't jump fences to get to wiener dogs!

  7. Congrats to your son and his great game. Our oldest is in full basketball season as well. The Mrs. and I take turns in who gets to go and watch (we have a little one who can't do games), and she is by far the most vocal cheering. She laughs and admits that she never thought it would happen.

  9. Awesome job with the basketball player. And I would rather have the mom that watches and gets into the game than the mom who doesn't even come to watch.

I'm so happy that the benefits are going to provide some financial security.
